Elderly Care in Modesto CA

Elderly Care in Modesto CASleep is something that many caregivers fantasize about, but are unable to get enough of. The reason for their sleep deprivation may have something to do with the fact that their elderly loved one needs assistance at night. Or it could be because their minds are cluttered with anxiety-driven thoughts and worries over all of their to-dos that need to be taken care of the next day.

If you are having trouble sleeping, here are a few tips that will make it easier to get the rest your body needs.

  • Create the perfect environment. A good night’s rest begins with the perfect bedroom. If the room is cool, dark, and quiet, you will be able to get more sleep than if it does not have any of these features. Also, remove anything that could be a distraction from the room, such as a TV, radio, phone, or other electronic device.
  • Come up with a sleep schedule. Having a sleep schedule in place will better prepare your body for when it is time to go to sleep. Prior to bedtime, do something that helps relax you, such as taking a warm bath or reading. Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeinated beverages as these things can disrupt your sleep. Also, avoid using any electronic device before bedtime because it could keep the mind active, making it difficult to sleep.
  • Try meditation or yoga. Both meditation and yoga are perfect for creating a calming and relaxing environment prior to falling asleep. You may also want to try deep breathing exercises, as they can easily help you calm your breath and heart rate for a more peaceful night’s sleep.
  • Ask for help. If the reason behind your sleep deprivation is the fact that your loved one is waking up at all hours of the night, have a professional elderly care provider take over for you. This caregiver can provide all of the same care that you can, but is also trained to handle a number of situations that older adults may face. Hire the elderly care provider for as long as you may need to get back the sleep you have lost.
  • Keep your worries to a minimum. Another reason for your lack of sleep could be the endless number of worries that are racing through your head. Try designating an hour early in the evening to worry, freeing up your time at bedtime. You may also want to jot these thoughts down in order to find a solution for them in the morning.
